Devin Smith Sr.

Our Founder is a board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner, healthcare leader, and clinical educator whose career reflects a commitment to improving health outcomes, expanding access to care, and empowering underserved communities through education and service.

Originally from Salina, Kansas, Devin developed a strong sense of community, compassion, and responsibility that continues to shape his professional and personal life. His experience across cardiovascular medicine, primary care, nursing education, and healthcare administration provides a unique perspective on addressing healthcare disparities and helping individuals and families navigate complex healthcare systems.

Healthcare Journey

Clinical Experience and Education

Devin currently practices as a Cardiology Nurse Practitioner with The University of Kansas Health System at Liberty Hospital, where he provides specialized cardiovascular care to patients with acute and chronic cardiac conditions. His work includes cardiovascular assessment, disease management, patient education, and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams to develop individualized treatment plans. He is particularly passionate about preventive cardiology, chronic disease management, and helping patients understand their cardiovascular health so they can make informed decisions and achieve better long-term outcomes.

Previously, Devin served as a Family Nurse Practitioner at Swope Health, providing comprehensive, patient-centered primary care to individuals and families across the lifespan. His experience in community health strengthened his commitment to addressing barriers to healthcare access, promoting health literacy, and improving outcomes in medically underserved populations.

Before becoming a Nurse Practitioner, Devin worked as a Cardiovascular Progressive Care Nurse at The University of Kansas Health System, caring for patients with complex cardiac conditions. This experience established a strong clinical foundation and inspired his continued pursuit of advanced cardiovascular practice.

Devin earned his Master of Science in Nursing – Family Nurse Practitioner and Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Saint Mary. He also holds a Master of Business Administration in Healthcare Administration from Newman University and a Bachelor of Science with dual majors in Biology and Forensic Science from Bethany College.

Leadership, Education, and Community Service

In addition to his clinical practice, Devin has served as an Adjunct Clinical Instructor at the University of Kansas School of Nursing and the University of Missouri–Kansas City. Through clinical instruction, mentorship, simulation, and competency development, he has helped prepare the next generation of nurses to deliver safe, compassionate, and evidence-based care.

His professional background also includes healthcare consulting and corporate leadership experience with Cerner Corporation and Kaiser Permanente. These roles strengthened his understanding of healthcare operations, organizational leadership, and the importance of building effective systems that support both healthcare professionals and the communities they serve.

Through The SMITH Project, Devin brings together his clinical expertise, educational experience, and passion for community service to advance health literacy, increase exposure to healthcare careers, and create opportunities for aspiring healthcare professionals. He believes that improving community health requires more than providing medical care; it also requires education, mentorship, advocacy, and meaningful access to resources.

Faith, Family, and Purpose

Devin's Christian faith is the foundation of his commitment to integrity, compassion, humility, and service. He views healthcare as both a profession and a calling, striving to treat every individual with dignity while creating opportunities for others to succeed.

Outside of his professional and community work, Devin is a devoted husband to his wife, Lindzy, and a proud father to their two sons, Devin Jr. and Landon. His family remains his greatest motivation and a daily reminder of the importance of faith, family, and giving back to the community.
